Screenshots, continued 8. Transform variables - date A common requirement in this sort of analysis is to convert variables from one form to another - dates to ages, postcodes to regions, numbers into bands. Date variables are nearly always important as a measure of age or recency, rather than the date in its own right. This shot shows how you can easily create a new variable ("Age") based on a date variable ("DateofBirth"), and build standard age bands. (In this case we've calculated age as of December 1, 2003, the mailing date for this example. The minimum date corresponds to an age of 86 years, and the maximum to an age of 18 years.) There's a similar form for converting number variables into bands. 9. Transform variables - text A few standard transformations of text variables are built in. You can convert UK postcodes to postcode areas and standard regions, and you can also convert title (or full name, eg "Mr John Smith") variables into standard title variables. |
